Limitations to Using Reseller Rights Products

You buy an item, and included in the use license, is the ability to Resell the item. Or even the right to Resell the Reseller Rights! Sounds good, doesn't it?

Reseller Rights items have a couple of limitations, and a few distinct advantages, depending on what kind they are.

Master Resell Rights - You get to resell the product, and the rights to resell the resale rights. Sometimes you can resell the master rights, sometimes not, so your customers may only be able to resell the right to resell, and not the right to pass that on another level (confusing, isn't it?). Very few restrictions on these, though some may have price limits (high, not low) to "protect the market value". Because what usually happens with them is that the first seller gets a high amount for them. The next layer of sellers now have to compete with each other, so they lower prices. By the third or fourth layer of sales, people are giving them away as incentives. So if you get them early, you usually do better. OR, if you get an item that has a solid usability, then the value stabilizes (see more below).

Resell Rights - You get to resell the item, but you cannot resell the resale rights. These items usually preserve their value to the reseller longer, but it also may be harder to actually sell the item to some buyers. How well these items preserve their market value depends on how many other people are selling them, and how good and timely the product actually is.

Resell Rights Perks and Restrictions - You have to read the terms carefully. Because sometimes you are allowed to even relabel or rebrand an item. Sometimes you have pricing restrictions, or are prohibited from bundling it or giving it away. And other times you might have been told one thing when you bought it, but find that the documentation says something different.

When you buy an item, search through the stuff that comes with it for clarification of the resale rights. Do NOT sell something that does not have confirmable documentation of your rights. Many items say right on them, others have a separate text license with them.

You also will need to rebundle the item if you only got Resale Rights. You see, you were sent the entire package, reseller items and all. Many of them have a resale sales page, or other items with them. But you do not want to pass that on to your customer, you only want to give them the product.

These items often come with a "mini website" or "one page website". They are invariably filled with hype, misleading statements, and masking of the real potential of the item in question. This means, if you want to sell the item on its merits, you'll have to rewrite the page, OR, set up your own sales pages and do it differently. They actually sell better to many people if you do this anyway, because you have differentiated yourself from the masses.
